Physical Oceanographer

We are looking for a Physical Oceanographer with a thorough understanding of tide, wave and current processes.



Core duties for this role include:
  • Assisting the software department in developing quality control algorithms for automatic quality control of incoming Met Ocean data.
  • Identifying surface and subsea parameters that will be of benefit to our customers and identifying suitable monitoring equipment.
  • Providing second line manual data quality control for incoming data.
  • Identifying processed parameters that will be of use to our customers and publishing resultant information.
  • Working with specialist Met Ocean service providers to provide Met Ocean training to Muir Matheson staff as required, reviewing and validating QC algorithms and processes, and developing and maintaining a long term Met Ocean development plan for Muir Matheson.

Position requirements

The ideal candidate will hold a degree in physical oceanography or in a related science ideally supplemented by an MSc in physical oceanography. Good all round PC literacy is essential, including experience of Microsoft products. Previous use of spreadsheets and/or Matlab (or similar) for data manipulation and statistical analysis is advantageous. Close attention to detail is a pre-requisite for this post.
