Kirkwall & Stornoway Airport
Muir Matheson made their first break-through with HIAL (Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd) when we installed a PAMOS at Sumburgh Airport in 1997. Wick, Benbecula and Inverness Airports followed this installation in consecutive years. The most recent Highlands and Islands (HIAL) Airport to be Installed with PAMOS is Kirkwall, with Stornoway soon to follow.
"Autobrief " was initially installed at Belfast City’s flight dispatcher’s office to enable pilots to be provided with all required pre-flight weather and navigation information automatically. Following this, their Met system was upgraded to an NT System. This allowed the installation of a strip printer for production of flight progress strips. All the AFTN information is stored in this system so movement logs can be accessed.
A dual PAMOS (Partially Automated Meteorological Observation System) was recently installed at Bristol Airport, fully compliant with Air Traffic Services Safety Case Requirements. The main advantage of this dual system is that in any eventuality, be it a lightning strike or a power failure, a back-up system takes over so no automatic data is lost. The dual ATIS (Aerodrome Terminal Information Service) at Bristol means that Met information can be broadcast via a transmitter or can, for a quieter environment, be accessed via telephone.

Gatwick Digital ATIS
Our existing voice synthesised ATIS at London Gatwick is being upgraded to provide a digital output. The major benefit of this is to allow the data to be accessed directly on screen in the cockpit. Incorporated in the upgrade is our new Windows NT software, which allows much more flexibility, giving simultaneous access to data, graphical information and control over the ATIS system. Of course, all standard messages are available, and a local database of pre-defined messages is included. An in-built recording facility is also available for the recording of site specific messages concerning navigation aid status, runway conditions etc. The Gatwick system will be our first operational digital ATIS.

Jersey Airport
An automatic meteorological system is now operational at Jersey Airport Air Traffic Control (ATC). It incorporates the METCOM System in widespread use at UK airports, to process all airport weather data.
As with all our Systems, the system allows further upgrades to incorporate automation of weather data processing, additional workstations and interfaces to other systems as required. Information is passed to the Met Office for verification prior to transmitting onto Air Traffic.

Guernsey Airport
Guernsey Airport are receiving an upgrade of their Semi Automatic Weather System to enable AFCOM to work in a Windows NT operating environment.
The major benefit of the NT workstation for ATC is ease of use for the operator, particularly for recording ATIS appended messages, entering runway surface conditions and navaid status. Even those less computer literate with have no problem accessing modules, menus, etc. as these can be entered via a mouse or by keystroke. Access to logs and records have also been made more user-friendly. Alert and warning messages are displayed directly on screen without interfering with the on-screen data as well as being logged to file.
