| SAFETY NOTICE – SO8 WIND SENSORS AND IM146 WIND SENSORS |
|
Muir Matheson has been advised of a near miss dropped object on an offshore installation. Muir Matheson believes it is of paramount importance that information relating to this incident is given to all our clients to reduce the risk at other sites.
The incident involved the fin plate component on a Munro SO/8 wind speed and wind direction sensor, where, due to metal fatigue, part of the fin plate broke away from the sensor. This same component is also used on the Munro IM146 sensor.
This metal fatigue is believed to be caused by continued exposure to high winds and extreme blustery conditions, where the fin plate has been in use for a long period of time.
Muir Matheson recommends that the fin plate on all Munro SO/8 and IM146 sensors be replaced every 12 - 24 months regardless of its physical appearance.
During future maintenance visits Muir Matheson personnel will be instructed to carry out this work as part of the routine maintenance calibration inspection work.
If Muir Matheson does not carry out regular maintenance on your site, please inform whoever is responsible for the work that this component must be replaced within the recommended time scale.
Muir Matheson has a very good record on safety and wants to ensure this continues in the future.
Your co-operation in informing all personnel who may be involved is greatly appreciated.
