Cloud Base
Ceilometers are used to measure cloud height. They use an infra-red laser device which is designed for fixed and mobile installations where accurate and reliable information is required. Certain cloud base recorders can record up to three cloud layers simultaneously. Cloud base can be detected reliably in fog, rain, snow and haze. If the cloud base is obscured, ceilometers can measure and report the vertical visibility.

Outputs can differ depending on different types of displays and recording units. A built-in test system indicates failures in the event of a malfunction.
